(NASDAQ: MYL) has entered into a definitive agreement with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to obtain and market a generic version of Pfizer's Viagra®, which is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men. Mylan has agreed to sell a 100% generic version of Viagra® and to license the generic version to Eli Lilly & Company, Inc. for a period of up to three years, subject to approval by FDA, subject to the FDA's final approval process. The generic version is expected to be marketed by Mylan's subsidiary, Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. for a total of approximately USD $41.2 billion.
Mylan has U. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) final approval for the generic Viagra® in the United States. Mylan's U. patent and patent rights in the generic Viagra® are currently in litigation with the U. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) due to the potential for significant adverse drug interactions related to the use of the generic Viagra® in treating certain medical conditions. Mylan and its subsidiary Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. have entered into a definitive agreement, pursuant to which the generic Viagra® will be marketed by Mylan in the U. market for a period of up to three years, subject to FDA approval. Mylan has no desire to market a generic version of Pfizer's Viagra®.
Mylan currently markets the generic Viagra® for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men. Mylan will continue to market the generic Viagra® in the United States.
